Re: Busted control arm, needs new CV Half Shaft too… worth the work?

What would you do if you were me? I can tell what I did. I crashed my 05 XC70 w/ 175k miles on it, bought another 05 XC70 w/ 215k miles on it, swapped everything: powertrain, interior, exterior (what survived). Cost me $2200 and two months spent in garage at evenings and undisclosed amount of beer....

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

Not bad... Unless you know the exact history on tires and stuff, I'd expect the AWD system to start being funky around that mileage. Things that go bad are usually angle gear and/or prop shaft. A lot of people (myself included) opt to remove the prop shaft when trouble arises instead of shelling out...

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

......would you rather put the work into all the above on a 2002 S60, or risk the possible AWD/ETM issues on a V70 that seems to be otherwise running great? * Why is he selling if he's only had it for a year? * His guess is just that....a guess. Verification? Records? I've never owned an AWD anythi...

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

moonweasel is in Washington State. An 07-08 Volvo with 120k is more like $5-6000 there, they hold their value pretty well. At a lot they will be $7000+.

Re: Would you buy this 2000 V70-XC?

The 2001 was blessed with the 5 speed, neutral stop software, and the M/M Electronic Throttle Body for the Trifecta of Tears.

Re: 2004 T6, tranny replaced w/rebuilt OE

Having been there and done that with one that failed just AFTER I bought it; I would say, if you can buy it and put away $50/mo for the next failure, go for it. I would also be mindful of use. I wouldn't tow a boat up White or Stevens' Pass with it, but for normal loads etc... Or expect to drive it ...

Re: 2004 T6, tranny replaced w/rebuilt OE

I suppose at 130K miles that was the second transmission replacement. But anyway, the 'refurbished' ones from Volvo may last between 40-70K miles. Just double check it was indeed coming from Volvo (just a call to the main dealer) and it's not just a used one from a junkyard. Certainly the owner sold...

Re: 2004 T6, tranny replaced w/rebuilt OE

I have a 04 T6 with 140k on it. Original tranny was replaced at about 88k by Volvo with all the Volvo required parts being replaced. At about 134k I rebuilt the tranny my self as it was starting to make noise over 65mph. Upon tear down I saw excessive clutch wear and steel burns. The car spent 2 yea...

Re: 2004 T6, tranny replaced w/rebuilt OE

Price is listed at $6,999. I'm not offering my opinion on what to do, but if I was the dealer and I sold a 14-year-old XC90 T6 for $7k, I'd consider myself the luckiest dealer in the US. I'd encase the suit I wore that sales day in a museum quality full-length climate-controlled enclosure, and labe...
