The transmission code will probably also trigger a CEL or check engine light, so read that out and see what that says

+1 to what abscate says. As the car has gone into limp mode it will trigger the CEL (engine check light). It is most likely (but not 100%) that it was triggered by the transmission issue.

That's ok. Glad you caught it before buying. Advantage of a re-built trans is you have a guarantee and a known entity.
