The pulley on the READ side is attached by a bolt. The reason that the pulley gets loose is because the clutch pulley on the Alternator stops working and it backs off the READ pulley So you will need a Tool and a pulley for the Alternator Good luck Paul Thanks Paul. Paul, I wanted to say thank you for documenting everything that you did. We made a decision to buy a 2010 S80 for my son to drive to college. During my research I found your thread. it gave me confidence that with proper maintenance we can easily get 8-10 more years of service out of it. Thanks, Chris

Be sure to disconnect the battery prior to working on the starter positive cable. Also inspect the starter cable terminal end to be sure the insulation is intact and cannot come into contact with the solenoid case where the cable and terminal bend around it. Just replaced this on a 2008 XC70 yesterday - hardest part was getting all the old hardened rubber bits out. Thanks again to whoever figured out the Ford part!
