850's in general

Post by docmull »

great site. just bought a '94 850 w 73k miles and am enjoying getting into the volvo cult. saw that timing belt post from ken and was wondering if you know when the maintenance schedule suggests it be replaced. also wondering if you know if the '94 850' s are notorious for any kind of quirk or part failures.

thanks,

matt mullins

If your belt's the original, you might experience a part failure  .

The first year 850's have a timing belt change interval of 50 or 60k miles. You might want to check the service records of your 850.

From https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/buy.php
"Problem areas: transmission (is the fluid within the min-max levels when the car is warm and idling? is it dark or burnt smelling?), AC evaporator (does the ac work for long periods?), and miscellaneous pieces like headlight washers, roof stips (trim), and O2 sensors (is the Check Engine light on?). "

are good sites to find common issues with 850's. The kinovolvo has stats on 850's starting inception.
