2002 XC70 Gas filler door

Post by Kinetic »

Have never had this problem before. Took the spousal unit and urchin to FLA for vacation last week. On the way down we stopped in BFE Tennesee for gas. I can't get the fuel filler door open. I'mm pressing the door release button and walking around the car to check. Do this about 50 times. Look like an idiot trying to get it to open. I read the owners manual, all sections that relate to this door. NO help and no manual overide. At the end of my rope I try the door one more time and I can hear the solenoid work. I run around and quickly open the door before it changes it's mind. Fill the car up to the max. Get some tape and tape over the hole in the tab that the solenoid plunger locks into. Complete the trip with this bandaid. Take car into Volvo dealer (good guys) but they have spent a second day now trying to reprogram the car computer. Anybody else have this happen to them?

The dealer service department had to replace the REM module that interfaces between the car computer and the switch on the dash and the solenoid for the gas filler door.

Thanks for letting us know the resolution. One question: don't today's 70 series have the manual door release (in the trunk)? My 850 does, and it's in my manual too.
