1997 850, air conditioner not working, can I get a store brand coolant or do you think I have a leak in my radiator how would I know?? There are no puddles on the ground. I hear that the air conditioner should freeze us out. Please advise....

The AC and the engine cooling systems are entirely different and unrelated. An engine COOLANT leak will not affect AC performance in the least.

If your AC system is not cold, and the compressor is not running, you likely have a REFRIGERANT leak. Refrigerant will not "puddle" if it leaks - it is a gas at room temperature.

On an 850, if you have a refrigerant leak it is most likely the evaporator, as these fail routinely. That's a big dollar repair.

Take it to a qualified auto AC professional.

Please do not waste your money at an A/C shop.....most of the time they will just take your wallet for a ride!

I used the kit from an auto parts store and I had cold AC for the summer before it bled back down. I don't know how many times you can recharge it though before doing more damage than just a leak. Anybody know?
