CD Plug on SC-811 Radio

Post by Unitsmoke »

Hey,

I have a 95 850 Turbo Sedan with a CD changer in the trunk. It looks to me that the cable that connects the radio and the CD player is a Mini 8 Pin Dim on both ends. I would like to find someway to either make or buy a mini 8 pin to RCA adaptor. I was doing some research and all I was able to find was a video connector that has Mini 8 to R, L, and Video. Would this cable work? You guys are usually pretty knowledgeable so I thought I would ask.

Quick Follow-up: I am going to be running a 150 W DC power supply as well. Should I run a cable straight from the battery or do you think the existing CD power will cut it?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I'm guessing you want a auxiliary input for other equipment. If you are willing to disable your CD Changer, there is a device from Blitzsafe that will do the job.

Unfortuantly making a 8 Pin Mini-DIN to RCA isn't that simple, because our stock decks require the CD Changer (or the Blitzsafe adapter) to send data, notifying the deck that the equipment is present. For me, who don't have either yet, pressing the CD button does nothing. The Blitzsafe adapter does some sort of data processing to trick the deck that a CD Changer is present.

Now if you were trying to use the CD Changer for that data processing, then the only way to 'tap' it for auxiliary audio is to individually test each pin, while the CD-Changer is running. I would start out with a 12V Tester to rule out the power pins, then some sort of audio tracer to find the audio pins. You just got to figure out a way to test each wire without disconnecting the cable from the deck to cd changer...

I'm certain that this can be done via this method, because I know the audio is transfered via analog, not digital on the CD Changer cable.

That is what I need for info. Thanks for the help. I am going to try and go the Carputer route so I was trying to save some money by using the stock deck. It looks like I am going to take out the stock and put a 7" touch screen in its place. I will also have to put a new amp in the trunk with a computer that I have around the house. I will put up some picks if it comes out as expected.

So it looks like I have some even better news. I have a friend that is going to do the same thing to his 01 S60 T5. I will make sure to document the progress on both cars and maybe even get a website going. I'm going to try and get it all done in a month before I start grad school. I think I am going to run the power from the unused fuses in the fuse box and run all the wires back to the original radio housing so I don't have to worry about disturbing the speakers. Feel free to give some advice if you can think of any. Does anyone have the wiring harness layout avaliable for both the 850 and S60?
