850 fuel pump leak, NEED HELP

Post by cbray87 »

I have an Volvo 850 and recently took it to the dealer for the fuel tank recall because there was an obvious gas tank leak whenever my gas tank was completely full. The local Volvo dealer completed the recall repair but proceded to tell me that the leak was coming from the fuel pump which they are happy to replace for $550. I could not understand the logic in replacing a fuel pump that works fine but leaks from the top (which I have since confirmed). I know there is a rubber gasket ($4.00) at the top of the tank and I am hoping that this may be the defective culprit. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge about this particular problem and their "non-deal repair" solution. Thanks, [email protected]

If the fuel pump was leaking you probably would have a stumbling engine as the pressure would be erratic and it wouldn't matter if the tank was full or not. Take out the back seat bottom ,remove the inspection plate and look for yourself.
