240 stalling and temp gauge goes 3/4 way

Post by cowboyfla »

I have a 92' 240 (gas) it will just stall without warning-after a couple of minutes it starts up like nothing ever happened-akso the temp gauge goes between 1/2-3/4 way up? any ideas?

In the 240 there is a step down transformer to keep the gauges from varying based on battery charge. seems like your transformer is bad- this happened to me; it also makes you think you have a lot of gas in the tank, too- beware.
Don't know about teh stalling :?

I would say that if the temp gauge meter is increasing at the same time as the engine stops, it sounds like bad grounding of the whole engine. Normally it is a rather thick blue cable grounded close to the battery and the other end is grounded close to the starter. That cable is rather often broken by vibrations.
If you have a voltage meter, connect it between the engine and the car fuselage, normally is should definitely be 0 volt DC, but if that value increase to some volt when the engine stalls, the ground is definitely bad
