Has anyone had any problems with broken door stops at the body, Had it welded a couple of months ago and the welds broke. The body shop says its a fault with the way it was made.

Yes, my driver's door stop broke. I found a replacement but have installed it yet. I think one of the rear doors is headed in the same direction.

Yup, this is common on 850/70s.

Yeah, my driver's door stop has just pulled free. I'm a bit concerned about welding so close to the loom. I've recently replaced the check strap on the same door.

Hello -

Is there any documentation on this being a common problem? I have a 98 S70 and the door check weld broke - Dealer wants an arm and a leg to fix it.

Any suggestions?
Thanks -

Depends what you call documentation. My source? Volvo chat boards such as this.

I'd say it falls somewhere between thermostat failure (rare) and turbo oil return line leaks (very common).

If you're thinking about forcing a recall, first check that there isn't one alrady (sounds like you have though). Then start contacting people and get together (like starting a sign-up thread here for those afflicted with this).
