2001 S60 steering wheel locks and ignition key won't turn

Does anyone know how to avoid this situation? At times, the steering wheel freezes up and the ignition key will not turn. Any precautions or solutions?

Does moving the wheel back and forth help when you're trying to turn the key?

Is it an automatic? If so, check that the button on the shift stick pops out. If it is still depressed / stuck then the steering wheel and ignition will not engage.

Just had same problem. Dealer diagnosed as faulty ignition lock assembly. Have to wait approximately 20 days as part is custom made in Sweden. No courtesy car either - ouch!
