Engine Swap

Post by iwik »

I need to replace an engine on a 1997 Volvo 850 naturally aspirated engine. It's a 24 vale 6 cyl. Is this the same engine in a 940, or my question is what year and model vehicle's engines will work?

`96-`97 850 NA should work. They were OBD II.
A turbo has a different ECU.
'98 S70, 230k, purchased new in '98
'96 855 GLT, 163k, purchased lightly used in '99
Onceuponatime RIP '69 Shelby GT500 w/7.0 liter

You should be able to use engines from '93 to '97 N/A 850's as well as '98 N/A S70 or V70. The engine in the 850 is a 20 Valve Inline 5 cylinder setup. The 940 uses an N/A or turbo 4-cylinder engine depending on trim level, so a 940 engine would not work.
