cannot shift out of park on hot days without shift override

Post by [email protected] »

On days when the car sits in the sun (usually the outside temp is 70F+) the car will not shift out of park without 'shiftlock override' Then while driving the turn signals, and odometer, speedometer and who knows what else, don't work. 1996 850R Wagon 203,000mi.

Sounds like you need a new ignition contact switch. Its a common problem.

This is a pretty common problem for the 850s. Not sure about the other stuff.

I had my car at the dealer a couple of weeks ago for "Can't shift out of park problem". They told me I needed to replace the micro gear switch. Can you tell me where this is located and if I can replace it my self? (San Diego Volvo didn't have the part)
I'd appreciate any help/advice.
Thanks, Daria
