I have a 1995 850 Turbo wagon automatic , with 193.000 miles on it. A month or so ago the check engine light came on, but the car runs great, of course I made sure there is oil and coolant, they are not the problem.
Today I had the codes read and it came back with two faults:
PO 133/O2 sensor CKT slow response (bank 1 sensor 1)
PO 172/System too rich(bank 1)
My question is, how difficult it is to replace an O2 sensor and is it really necessary even though the engine runs great with no problems at all and I also get pretty good milage, average 23-mpg on regular gas.
Also, is code PO 172 caused by PO 133?
If needed where is a good place to by the sensor?
Thank you, Peter

Being a '95 model, you can read the codes yourself using this guide. Anyways, if the o2 sensor has not been changed before, I would definitely go ahead and change it out. It's very simple to do. Check ebay and also see what autozone has to offer. The two codes are related. The car running rich can eventually either clog up the catalytic converter or cause the material inside it to burn up.

I just added a bottle of gumout gas additive/carburetor cleaner/booster...whatever they sell. The bottle says that it is sensor safe. Not even 15 minutes and 10 miles later my check engine light came on. I haven't checked the codes yet but needless to say, I'm mad as @#$%#$
Are these products safe for volvo sensors? I have heard it said before not to use them for this reason but the bottle said...
thanks

I have a 1995 850 turbo. In general which sensor would the carburetor cleaner affect, if any. On the codes (I have a manual that is not altogether clear) how do I differentiate which sensor is involved?
thanks
thanks
