2001 S40 Fuel Capacity Question Topic is solved

I just recently got a 2001 s40. i went to fill up the tank because the gas light came on. well, when i went to fill it up, it took 12 gallons to fill it up...i know the car has a 15.9 gallon capacity...whats the deal here? does this mean i have about 4 gallons left when the light comes on?

I have the same question. In the owners manual of my 2000 v40 it says that the fuel light shoud come on when there is 1.5 gallons left in the tank. If I fill my car when the light first comes on (at about 300 mi) it usually only takes about 12.5 - 13 gallons.

good to see im not the only one with this question...should i try to drive around to see how many i can get with the light on? im guessing i could probably get around 90 miles with the light on.

I don't know if I'd recommend that!! The farthest I have ventured on one tank is about 330 miles. At that point I can get just about 14.5 gallons into the car. I'm normally around 22-24 MPG.
