Over Reving. Engine Cut Out Topic is solved

Can anyone tell me at what point does the engine management sytem cut in to protect the engine from over reving. I recently forgot to change gear and was accelerating in second a if i was in 5th. Trying work out if i've done any damage or not.

If you just forgot to change up..then it's unlikely you've done any damage at all. Rev limiters vary from petrol to Diesels and are reached much earlier in diesels as they have a short rev range.

Only time you could do harm is if your like high motorway speeds in fith..and managed to drop down to second!
