will not start just ticking Topic is solved

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

will not start just ticking

Post by Guest »

I have a 2000 S80 with 83000 miles, the SRS Airbag light came on a few weeks ago, I ignored and now the car will not start just loud clicking noise. I though it was the battery but the lights, horn and radio all work.

The lights, horn, and radio will not draw anywhere near the amps that the starter does. Break out a voltmeter (a $5 one is fine) and measure the voltage at your battery or at the terminals in the engine bay. Measure with everything off and the doors closed. Then measure with the ignition in position II. Note the voltage drop. You may need to replace or recharge your battery. And if it's the OEM one, it's about time to go. The SRS light is another problem, but it isn't related to the battery. If you haven't removed any seats or seatbelts, then I can't see why the SRS is on (unless you were in an accident that you failed to mention)...

Sorry, the SRS will light if the voltage to the seatbelt pretensioners are outside of preset limits for more than 5 minutes. I'm assuming that the battery wasn't charging (alternator or voltage regulator going bad) and the current going to the seatbelts were outside of it's limits and set the light. And eventually your battery discharged to a point that it won't even turn over the starter. I'd first examine the battery, as I said in the earlier post. If it's the one that came with the car, it's ready to go by now. If it checks out okay, then look at the alternator as the problem. Hope that helps.
