The heater motor and hazard lights have failed on my 1998 V40. The hazard lights may have failed some time before the heater, I don't know. I have thoroughly checked both fuse boxes and relevant switches, and all are good. The heater motor runs when directly connected to 12v. The indicators work.
To me it points to a relay/relays. The Haynes manual isn't quite right for the 1998 model, it shows a photo of relays on the heater motor, that just aren't there! It also shows three relays on the interior fusebox, one large (the flashers) and two smaller, that are unlabelled. Haynes shows them but doesn't say what they are!
If I go by the wiring diagram, the only relay shown for the hazard lights is the flasher relay, and because the indicators work properly I'm assuming that one is okay.
When the hazard warning switch is out (haz lights should be on), it cuts off the indicator function (like it should). It also cuts off the cigar lighter (presumably to conserve power), so I'm guessing this is done by a relay somewhere. I'm also guessing that this one is at fault, as I could hear a feint buzzing from behind the dash around the time it failed. Doesn't explain the heater motor problem though.
All other electrics are running properly.
All ideas gratefully received! RichardW
