Sorry if this has been covered but I'm new to the site.
I've read the owners manual cover to cover on my 2005 XC90 2.5T AWD and I don't see any directions on how the check the fluid level in the trans. This has been a basic item on every auto car I've ever owned, but the manual alludes to it not being an owner maintenance item. Does it not need checking? Is it a PITA to check?
How to check auto trans fluid level Topic is solved
When I took delivery of my 2004 XC90 AWD, I spent several days and many hours trying to find out where/how to do this basic maintenance check. What I learned is (according to the dealership service folks ) "the transmission does not require checking"?!?!?!) Why, I don't have the foggiest idea. That being said, I finally found the dipstick for the transmission neatly hidden beneath the turbo intake line that connects the intercooler ( in front of the radiator ) to the turbo charger. The line dips low on the driver's side front corner of the engine and just below it ( directly below it ) is where the transmission dipstick is located. It appears that the intercooler line needs to be either removed or at least released and moved to the side to allow withdrawal of the dipstick. Hope this helps.

hjself,
Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll leave checking it up to the service dept until the extended service plan runs out.

volvo doesn't recommand transmission service. They recommand that if something is wrong replace it. If not don't mess with it.
