headlight adjustment 98 S70

Post by Mth »

I have an 01 S40 and a 98 S70. I usually drive the S40. When I switch to the S70 at night, it seems to me that the headlights are very week. I replaced the OEM bulbs with Phillips Vision Plus bulbs, but I still have very poor visibility at night.
My two beams seem to hit the road roughly 15 feet in front of the car.

There is a little window above the headlight, with a level bubble measuring device, and a little star shaped screw to move the bubble from "down" to "up". I tried turing the screw both ways but the beam didn't seem to change. Any one have any suggestions. Could the way I placed the bulbs in the car have some effect on my problem?

Hi Mth. I have a 98 S70 T-5 and I had the same problem with my head lights. So I took the light assemblies out of the car and disassemled them to find that the small ball joints connected to the adjustment points behind the lights which control the up/down motion had come loose from the connection to the reflector. The adjusters on the top of the lights control the left/right motion of the lights. Check it out, I'll bet you have the same problem.
Thanks,

KJ
