New user of the forum I am and a new Volvo 240 owner too. My grey car got a name already - Red October.
I bought the car from this guy who had the car for app. two years. History before that is not known. It has a solid milage of 200 000 km. It has some rust on the sides in the trunk, but as I hear around it is a common problelem with 240 Volvo.
What I want to do before spring and the whole restoration (paint job, general on the motor, new leather interior) - is getting the motor and suspension in order. The problem in the motor (i dont know the english word) is the klenk, klenk sound when going into high revs. Also ther is this strange poking like sound coming from back and under when changing gears fast. I guess the problem is the differential. Also I have problems with high gasoline consumption. 13l/100km approximatterly. I guess the carburator adjusting would help. Then there is the temperature meter for the water circualting through the motor. It is not working. Any ideas how and what to change here?
I would need some advice on all of them issues. Since I have bigger plans with this car than just repairing it to drive it, check back on this page often. I will post the links to photographs and the whole history of repairs on this car will be here. Also I will ask many questions in the year to come I guess, so if you have knowledge, please help.
If anybody has any idea of whare to get cheap spare parts and what has to be changed on a Volvo with this milage, I would appreciate the advice very much..
