Sorry, one more thing! ('91 740 again)
The car's front seats are heated, yet only the passenger seat gets warm, and it's only on the base, not the back. Is there any way to fix it so the driver's seat can be heated again? I checked the fuse panel and it's not shorted out, so I thought maybe it was old wiring since the car is 14 years old. The buttons to operate the heated feature still work, cuz the lights come on. Any ideas/information appreciated. Thanks!
Heated seats Topic is solved
It is very common that the heat gets broken. You can take the upholstery off and you will find an electric resistance wire under there. That wire use to get broken by mechanical stress when you sit on it. In most cases the spot is easily found by a small burning mark. This is easy to repair by soldering and put on some new insulation. It could also be the thermostate placed under.

Thanks for replying LaRy, and yes, advice on how to take off the upholstery would be greatly appreciated!
You have to take the whole seat out including the rails. Loosen all electrical connections under the seat. Loosen the plastic covers in floor level placed in front of the rails. Loosen the two bolts and the seat can be taken out by sliding
