Replace Headlamp bulbs on S60

Post by GKS »

I am a car idiot. Unfornately, I am also adverse to having someone charge me $200 to change a headlamp light bulb I am hoping someone can offer fairly detailed instructions on how to replace the bulb.

guess you don't have the manual? as it's all detailed there?
Exactly which bulb has gone... as there's serveral bulbs in the headlight..
Side Marker
Direction indicator
Dipped beam/poisition lamp
Main beam.

Gonna take a guess it's the dipped beam.

Bulb Type is H7 55W

Location ( starting from the middle of the car) is second bulb out ( actually has the largest cover)

First Switch off all lights and turn iggy to position 0
Remove the bulb cover ( sometimes easier if you have the hands of a small child)
Unplug the connector.

Remove the retaining spring clamp. do this by pushing it to the right then it will release and spring back and downwards.

Remove the bulb

Replace new bulb ( be sure not to touch the glass at all with your hands or it will vastly reduce it's life. If you have..then a bit of surgical spirits will clear off the grease.

Insert bulb..it will only go in one way. Replace the retaining spring.
Plug in the connector...
Replace the cover.

I've searched high and low and I cannot find a repair manual for my 2001 Volvo S60. Where can I get one? I can't find a thing online or elsewhere. Any insight/direction you can give would be more than appreciated,

Sorry, when I said manual, I refer to the Handbook! it details simple maintenance towards the rear.

I've had a quick looksy about...and aye..there doesn't seem to be any out there..the car's not that old though..as it's no longer a simple combustion chamber, alot of the settings are via the computer so makes it trickier for us to perform our own maintenance.

Haynes for example only really produce a manual for a car on demand..ie if they get enough requests they will produce one....I doubt there's much intrerest as I bet a very large percentage of the newer Volvo's always go back to the dealer.
I used to service my own cars..but when I opened the bonnet on the S60 to me..it might have well have had a big sticker on the engine cover "Step away and take me to a garage!"
