gas gauge Topic is solved

I'm not sure about my gas gauge... sometimes I'll have half a tank (or this goes with any measurement), I'll drive around, it'll go down a lot, then I'll turn the car off and turn it on sometime later, and I'll have more than I started with. It seems to fluctuate a lot and also seems to go down pretty far when it shouldn't. Is this normal?

well the sender in the tank has a float on it so it rises and lowers with the gas level and also when you go up and down hills to some extent. If you are sitting level it should be accurate.

In one of the Volvos I own, a 740 from 1985, the gauge meter seems to follow every movement from the float immidiatety, so when driving, accelerating, braking, the gauge meter is going up and down rapidly. I don't know if this is normal or not, because in my 740 from 1986 is the gauge meter is working much more softer. Anyway, it seems that the gauge meter is showing an accurate value when the petrol is not moving around, like at constant speed or when parked.

It would be interesting to know if this is normal for the 1985 Volvo's, or if anyone has some advice for me.
