Trip meter + Radio + Cigarette lighter not working

Post by V40 Guest »

Hi all,

I've got roped into looking at a neighbours UK 1997/1998 V40 as I'm an electronics engineer. The problem is that the tripmeter, cigarette lighter and radio suddenly stopped working. he kind of blames it on one of his kids that was hopping about in the front seats of the car as that's when the fault occurred.
I don't have any circuit diagrams to fault find with, but my hunch is possibly a fuse / relay that feeds all items. Has anyone come across this fault and can lead me in the right direction please?

many thanks in advance,
V40 guest.

I dunno about the other stuff that is wrong but in my S40 my cig lighter does not work either and after poking around I found that the connector from the fuse box to the lighter is missing. Meaning there is no wire that is present to the cig lighter. As for the radio, I'd check the fuse first. If it's not the fuse, check and see if the RED wire going into the radio in the back has a current running. Hope this helps. What I ended up doing was buying another electrical socket and spliced the red wire behind my radio to make it work. Trying to pull out my center console was not really an option for me.
