Volvo S60 Warning Light

Post by GMZ »

I'm getting a message that reads "check stop lamp". Any idea what this is referring to? Also, is there any where on the web that you know of that lists the possible messages and their meanings?

Similar situation. I noticed some postings from 2003, but didn't see any real resolution. I'm getting a "Bulb Position Failure Light" message that will stay on for days, and then go away. Haven't found a list on the web yet...but I'll keep looking.

I have a 2002 S60, with 135K on it. I have received these messages, and have replaced the lamps. the message then obviously disappears. However, in a few situations, the message has come on, and the lamps are good, but by cleaning the contacts and moving the bulb a little I have gotten the error message to go away. If I had to guess I would bet that the computer detects the resistance between the bulb and the contacts, and its possible that the light could be going on and off while you are driving.

My 2002 gets this same message quite regularly. We change the bulbs, and same thing happens, the message comes back, sounds like Volvo has an issue to correct on all S60.

When changing light bulbs on S60 and S80 models, YOU MUST USE THE RIGHT WATTAGE BULBS. They all have to match each other. Get from the dealer to be safe. They are only a few bucks each the most.

Read the bottom of the light bulb. It will have an identification stamp.. some bulbs will look the same, but are different... you will notice the the back of the light bulb pannel you will see the same "identification" There are 3 different bulbs you will need to use. Your local auto parts store will have them..

In shorter words... use the right bulb.. and the problem will go away..

I made the same mistake and put in the wrong bulbs.. It was a nightmare.. Some would work.. then not work..

it's bulb failure position light. means the taillight is loose or burned out. slam the trunk lid and it'll stop. or, with the lights on, get out and see which taillight (there are 4) is not on.

It seems many of us here have had numerous occassions where the position marker light warning comes up on the message center and none of our lights is burnt out.

I've just learned to live with it. If I'm near the dealer I pop in and they turn it off.

Well----- A new one for you. I was pulling down some Christmas lights this morning and my son was backing the car into the drive. Right hand reverse light and turn signal is burned out or not working.

You guessed it. NO MESSAGE WARNING!!!!!!!!! What a stupid feature. They can't even get this right.

I broke out the hole cover for the second rear fog and put a bulb in. It lights up both lights now but I got this message after doing so. It must not be expecting quite so much resistance across the rear fog lights. Guessing that's why mine came on...
