Volvo 740 Car Engine Design Book

Post by afton »

Hello all,
I'm wondering if there's any book that explain in detail
the Volvo 740 Car Design (especially the car machine).
My purpose is for self-study about car engine design.
I've looked at the Haynes series, but it's more of a repair
manual, rather than explaining the design philosophy.

Thanks :)

engines get better all the time. Volvo engines are well designed and well made they have a low mean piston speed which helps in their longevity. I love engines too. I think rolls-royce was the first to come up with shims in cam buckects. peugeot had a twin overhead cam engine with hemispherical heads in like 1911 or thereabouts! Take a look at a Toyota 4age engine. Toyota wanted to get into formula atlantic and this was their engine design, It is light and powerful and the sound makes my hair stand on end as does a ford kent engine with two 40 dcoe webers. Look at lotus too! I like engines, and cars so much that learning about fuel injection is my hobby. I have always had to read about performance cars to learn about engine design. Rebuilding a bunch of engines helps too! Good luck on your quest.
