what brake light bulbs?

Post by Guest »

My orange bulb-burned-out light on the dashboard light tree came on AGAIN when I apply the brakes so I figured "OK, which brake light is it this time?". Well the high mount one is OK, for a change, but NEITHER left or right brake light comes on. Could both bulbs have gone bad? or is there a fuse responsible for this behavior (but why the high mount brake light only on?). Ans thestandard 1157 combo tail/brake bulbs are not correct so which bulb type do I need ?(if it is the bulbs, that is) Present ones have a low and a high nub on them.

The bulb-out detector is sensitive to the electrical draw of the various exterior light systems. If an incorrect bulb is used, it will come on.

The correct bulbs are all listed in your owners manual.

Which is locked inside my glovebox with the faulty latch. I'll consult the, hopefully, on-line version of the manual. Looks like I need a bulb with the nubs at the same height on both sides, I have an 1156 lying around which I think I used for the high mount SL so I may try that if the nubs are correct. Thanks for responding.

I still have the same problem as in this thread.

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/phpBB ... php?t=6153

I popped out the light clusters on each side and the bulbs don't look burned out (blackish). They do look like 1156's though I can't locate an on-line 850 Manual (single element vs. double and both nubs on bottom of sides vs. 1 higher and 1 lower).

Anyway, before I pop an 1156 in each side, could it be a fuse or something else? Again, the highmount brakelight bulb (1156) works when brake pedal is pressed, but neither side.

Any further thoughts?
