buying volvo v40 or v70

Post by newsman1 »

Hey everyone:

I'm thinking about purchasing either a 1998 volvo v79 awd or a 2000 v40.
I'm now a little scared off after reading the reviews of both those models over at edmunds.com. Reliability seems to be a real question.
Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
dave

Do you really really need an awd? A t5 with a set of bridgestone blizzacks will take you anywhere reasonable. Plus you get better mileage, more fun, and less trouble. My 98 v70 t5 has 70,000 miles of absolutely trouble free joy riding. Think before you buy an awd.

Volvos aren't known for reliability, so get used to various systems failing at one point or another. That said, I still love my 2001 Cross Country. I'd stay away from the V40. It is indeed badged a Volvo, but it is built from a Mitusbishi platform.
