I've a '99 V70 that has the alarm LEDs under the windshield (they're always off though) and the cargo door keylock is plugged, and when I asked a Volvo dealer about it they told me that my car has the alarm installed but "deactivated" and that it would cost $200 to "program the car to activate the alarm" plus $170 for each new remote with a panic button (he said I need a new remote if I activate the alarm).
My question is, does anyone know of any do-it-yourself way to make the alarm work, and if I can use the remotes I already have? I can live without a panic button but I don't want to pay $500 for to use something that's already installed in the car.
Thank you,
Alex
