Volvo 244 Engine rebuild

Post by Guest »

:?: I am rebuilding a Volvo 1984 244 engine and when i took off the oil pan, there right beside the oil pump is/was a robber hose about 5/8 inches in diameter. It come from somewhere up top and extended to bottom of the oil pan. It broke off as soon as the oil pan dropped. Can some one tell me what it is for and should i replace it before sealing it up?? PS the hose that was there is old and brittle and as it broke up it clogged the oil pump screen.
Thanks, Chuck

It must have been the drain hose! Get a new one! It is going straight up and you will also find a holder for the hose fastened by two bolts. It is important that this tube is correctly assembled before putting the oil pan back. This drain hose is going to the crank house ventilation system.

Thanks for reply. I had called dealer parts and they do not have a clue nor do the parts book show this hose. Does it have a name? Also, are the two bolts for holder on inside of block or outside? This thing is keeping me awake at night.

These bolts are inside the block. I have not done this job myself, but I have been studying Haynes repairing manual, mentioning in several places how important it is to place this hose correctly. It seem by looking into pictures and reading the text carefully, that one of the fastening bolts for the hose holder is also holding the oilpump.
The hose is connected to the oiltrap placed outside the block.
Have a good sleep!

Thanks again. I bought 2 Chiltons manuals and it never mentions that hose nor even shows it in any pictures. Guess i will buy a Haynes book.
