windshield wiper problem

Post by JVandel »

Has anyone experienced windshield wiper problem - top half of wiper on drivers side works OK, but bottom half lifts off windshield when wiper rotates towards the driver side door. A couple weeks ago the wiper lever was left on when car was parked overnight. Wiper was frozen to windshield in morning when car was started - was this the cause? Any suggestions on how to fix it? THANKS

If the blades are not "winter" blades, the ones with the rubber cover over the arm components, look close and see if there is any ice or dirt build up where the arms connecting to the blades should slide freely in there.

Help! Sometimes my windshield wipers work and sometimes they don't Usually they work when I first get into the car. Sometimes they will last for my whole commute (~40 minutes) and other times they will start to slow down, begin to bump across the glass, and then stop in the middle of the windshield, often right in my line of vision. Sometimes they start up again during the drive and sometimes they will start after I hit a bump in the road. It's as if they have a clogged artery and the blockage needs to be knocked loos. Sometimes they don't start back up at all. Also, sometimes they are going along fine and then I stop for a few minutes to get gas or something and then when I start the car up again, they don't work. This seems to be true especially when I forget to put them in the off position before turning off the engine. I have tried getting them rewired and getting the motor replaced (though it was replaced with a used motor) but this only helped a little. I tried replacing the fuse, since it's the same fuse as the horn which also doesn't work, but no luck.

If it's an 850 try putting in a new wiper relay. It's like a fuse but a bit bigger, and it goes under the dash on the drivers side. Call around to Volvo parts places to see who has one.
