Last week our '95 850 developed a sudden persistent fault - it sputters and gives up under load - pulling away from junctions etc. At idle there seem to be irregular dips - sometimes the car starts fine - sometimes it's a struggle. A quick rev on the gas can cause a stall...
Changed HT plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor etc - running better than last week, but sputtering still present under load - not reliable.
An experienced mechanic is stuck for a solution, and recommends I call an electrical specialist.
Battery output is a little low.
Thoughts?

Check vacuum lines. Light-colored small hoses running here and there in the engine compartment. They or their rubber elbows can crack.
Also check your mass airflow sensor for irregularity.
Might also be your fuel pump or a clogged fuel line. Did/do you run it to empty? This will suck the drudge off the bottom of the tank -- all the crap in fuel that's been trapped there for 10 years. If so I'd replace the fuel filter.

Cheers - have too admit it's been run low on fuel a few times in recent weeks - wife likes to run the fuel light and tell me later it needs doing!

Quick Update:
Checked suggested areas. There are no fault codes flagged, so think I'll go for filter and hope it does the job...

In the end, after following a lot of dead-ends, a replacement coil and module did the trick.
