Is this normal?

My Volvo (2000 V-70) usually starts at the first turn of the ignition. However, once in a while I have to crank it a couple of times. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold (actually, I have noticed this more when the engine was hot).

My previous cars (Nissan and Mazda) with over 100K miles always used to start up on the first turn of the ignition - so I am wondering it is just a 'quirk' or if there is something that may not be in perfect shape?

It's probably a matter of tuning it up to get better startup performance. Plugs, air filter, check hoses, the usual stuff. If that doesn't work, distributor.

Also, run some injector cleaner thru the system for a tank or two. Amazingly cheap protection from the poor performance gremlins.
