Check Engine Light
My check engine light on my 98 S70 came on right after I fueled up. It did this once before, I guess one day after I refueled. I took it to a local AutoZone so that they could hook up to the OBDII and read the code. The code came up as something with emissions problems. The guy told me it could be my gas cap leaking. He erased the code and told me to take the cap off and then put it back on. He told me to drive around and if came back up that I should take to a local state inspections booth to have it check for leaks in the gas cap. It has been about two weeks since it was checked at AutoZone. How true is this, I am thinking it could be something more like an EGR valve. Could someone please help? Thanks in advance.
The gas cap could easily be the problem. The Volvos, along with many new cars, have a completely sealed fuel system and a leak anywhere in the fuel system, like the gas cap, would trigger the engine light to illuminate. I'm not sure how often the gas caps fail... but it's a good idea to check the cheap stuff first.
