Help!!! OBII error PO171 bank 1 system to rich

Post by Clod »

I was wondering if somebody can help me. I have a 96 850GL and I am getting a PO171 bank 1 system to rich error from my OBII computer reader. The car has about 90,000 miles. I checked the obvious things eg. plugs, air filter, etc. I was wondering if anybody experienced the same error and there is something obviously wrong with Volvos when they hit around 90K. Any suggestions? I am banging my head against the wall.

Thanks,
Clod

the engine used in the 850 is easily good to 250k-300k miles. And I mean easily. Your chassis will fall-apart long before the engine dies. (assuming you never let the timing belt break)

running rich means you've either got not enough air, or too much fuel. Check the intake manifold for restrictions. Also have the injectors tested. if all else fails, have a shop hook up a known-good ECU to ensure it's not telling the injector to shoot too much fuel in.
