850 T5R problems

Post by Sapper »

Have 2 problems with my T5R

1. Dash rattle and moves back and forth (have checked behind window washers but no problems there).

2. Tranmission, on cold mornings or when it has been use for a while the transmisson fault light comes on and the it flicks over to winter mode. This over come by switching the car off and start up a couple of times (light continues to flash). Have taken it to local dealers and they set it back (transmission) to factory settings (didnt work). Seems to be when the fluid has warmed up it's fine.

I have a 1995 850Turbo with the same problem, which started around 100K... You can try the following work around as follows:
Stick your key in the ignition and turn the key only to turn on all dash lights on...then turn back to the off position. Repeat this process 5 times... Then start the car. This will reset the computer for the transmission and other functions, as well.

Other symptoms associated with this work-around is a dragging transmission while driving. If the problem continues then the dealer may recommend a new transmission. I now have 148K and have not had this problem to come back yet,... knock on wood.

Good Luck!

Where did you hear that? Because, from what I can tell, that process does nothing to reset the ECU, and is only the procedure for programming a keyless entry remote.

Well, got that from the dealership mechanic... They say it happens on a lot of 850's around 100K.... It seemed to get me by. I had the same problem with the winter mode, coming on & the check engine light. Over a period of 6 months and multiple instances w/ ECU resets - the issue finally went away. I have 50K more miles with no re-occurance since the problem started. They also said if it doesn't go away then the transmission could be the problem.
Just my 2 cents from experience with the dealership troubleshooting problem.

that's rather odd, because I have asked around, and my suspicions were confirmed -- the method you described is for programming a keyless entry remote, and does not reset a CEL.

No more flashing lights, had the new PNP switch installed seems to have cured it. :D
