Will not go in OD Topic is solved

Hello All,

Our 87 740 will not go into OD, the light stays
on all the time and pressing the OD switch does
not change the light.

Is this a mechanical or electric ploblem?

All your help will be greatly appreciated.

you could have a bad relay, or the switch could be malfunctioning, or the solonoid on the transmition its sef could be bad. My daughter has a 87 740 turbo and it just needed a trany service new filter and fluid.

my 940 had a similar problem.
repolace the relay switch for about 100 bucks and it works great

My '88 740 had the exact same thing happen. It's the relay switch located in the panel above the ashtray. If the light's on, you're riding around in a lower gear... better replace it ASAP.

Check the simple thing first which is the OD fuse. If fuse ok and you have no way how to fault trace...then try a new OD relay.
