I did that on my 81 245. It works great. You will probably have tie downs to secure through the radidator. Use one of those to secure the temp sensor behind the rad outside of the fan area, exposed to hot air coming through the rad. BUT, also take a metal strip and make sure the fan is tightly secured & free from vibration and any movement or over time it will loosen up the tubes in the rad and cause a water leak. I had mine for about 4 yrs. and now the temp thermostat went out so I just direct wired mine. Also keep in mind that sitting in traffic sometimes allows the temp sensor to not read correctly allowing for the temp to go up before the fan kicks in. So keep any eye on the temp reading and use the manual override switch in cabin for that purpose.
