Hi!
I am having a problem with the orange arrow light coming on for a few days then disappears. Only to get stuck in 3rd gear. The mechanic changed the transmission fluid and replaced the winter mode button. Car was fine for a week. Came back on for a day. I have read alot of sites like this one and have tried shifting my car from park down to low quickly for about 5-6 times and lights have not come back on since. Also, it is suggested that cold weather has been attributed to this problem.
My question is should I wait to have the PNP switch done if the car only gets stuck in third gear? Is it just a bug for this year like the low oil light?
The mechanic who looked at it said that if the lights come back on after they did the tranny flush, I would have to have a re-built tranny put in. It only has 72,700 miles and I have only had it since August. I have put 7,000 myself.
Any help or advice would be great. Also I have visited the volvospeed website and fixed the windshield fluid problem on my own. Very helpful. I am a woman who is not afraid to get under the hood and make repairs myself so replacing the PNP Switch would be my next project if necessary.

Yes, you can wait on the PNP switch. I wouldn't let it go on for long because it could be dangerous (starting in 3rd gear).
Move the gear selector from P to L3 20 times when the car is off. This will clean the contacts. This may buy you more time before replacement is necessary.

Hi Matthew,
Thank you for replying to my post. I have just purchased the Haynes Manual for my 93' 850 and plan on reading it cover to cover like I did the manuals.
Your advice has saved me a couple of thousands for now!!!!
Thanks again
