1990 240 DL Sedan tail light with loose connection

Post by ShaneH »

Does anyone know away to 'tighten' the connection between the wiring harness and printed circuit board on the tail light assembly? I would hate to replace the entire assembly, but i'm having trouble maintaining contact and, thus, no lights on one side.

Also, if i need to replace the whole thing, does anyone have insight into the non-Volvo aftermarket assemblies that are half the cost? Do i get what i pay for?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane: If none of the lights work on one side it probably is a bad ground.
look for the connection that is common to the shells of all four bulbs and make sure that the wire (should be color black) is attached. this is a push-on connector...flat. Anyway make sure you have a ground. I just repaired the tail ligts on my '81 240 wagon just prior to selling it. The tail lights are the same on the '90 Volvo 240 wagon that I just got. I have no expierience with the aftermarket tail light stuff. I did once put an aftermarket waterpump on one of my Volvos. It was nowhere the quality of the original, however it was only about 25% of the price of a genuine Volvo pump and was still on the car when I sold it.

I have a 93 240 sedan. When my rear lights were acting squirrely, I flattened out the plastic/gel so that there were no wrinkles. Next, I removed each bulb housing, scratched off the contacts (with a screw driver, etc) to ensure a good connection, bent the prongs on the bulb housing to make a tighter fit, and finally put the bulbs back in. I have had no problems since.
