Timing Belt 93 850

Post by Mister 93 »

I own a 93 850 GLT 5 speed with 163K on it. I had the timing belt last changed at 108K, thats 55k. I know the manual says change at 50K, but thats just not convenient right now. Whats the reasonable life expectancy on the belt, its not going to snap right after it gets to 50K is it? Can I drive it a some more or should I Park it untill I can get the belt done?

appreciate any input here.
Thanks,
Mister 93

Common sense would say that Volvo uses a conservative figure,
but....`94 and up, Volvo switched to a wider belt and a longer interval. That coupled with the fact that it is an interference engine and a broken belt will likely do about $4000 in damage, common sense would dictate getting it changed fairly soon.
