Back-up lights not switching on Topic is solved

When I put my 740 estate (1988) in reverse gear, the back-up lights won't come on. I checked all the bulbs and fuses and they all seemed OK.
All the other tail lights work as they should. Someone told me there should be a switch at the gear stick, but I can't find any.
Interestingly, I have a similar problem with my just bought 940 Turbo (1992), only slightly different. As soon as I go into reverse gear the lights come on and then quickly afterwards they go out again!?
Any ideas??

yeah, i have the same problem, when i put it in reverse, they sometimes come on and if they do they immediately go out. i've wiggled my finger around in the housing unit of the gear shifter and that sometimes helps, but it's probably just a connector.
