Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Car is going to stall

Post by Julian_Ortega »

I'm experiencing problems with my 1999 S80 Turbo -- I have noticed that when I'm at a complete stop, the lights inside and the headlights dim. It feels as though the car is going to stall -- then the lights brighten back up againwen an on the go.

Anyone else experience these problems and if so how did you resolve it?

I'm not interested in having the dealer spend any more time and my $$$ to investigate. I told them about it and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car.

I have a 2001 S80 T6. It isn't a constant problem but frequently, the car will idle rough, the engine RPMs will bounce up and down from 400 to 1200 while it is idling. During a scheduled tune up, I asked the dealer what the problem was and he said it could be one of two things. Most likely he said it could be the electronic fuel control module. To replace it, it would cost me 800 to 900 Euro (I live in germany), equivilant to 1100 to 1200 dollars. He said also sometimes it can be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled and work like new. Second he said that it could be a problem with one of the turbos, a hose or airline somewhere. Well, since my car is no longer under warranty, needless to say I have been hesitant to return to the dealership to have them diagnose the problem any further. Let me know if you learn anything or if this has been helpful to you.

had 100,000 warranty and volvo took a bath trying to find the problem; csr stalls out for no reason on hills, driving in parking lots, even on the freeway at 65 mph. volvo replaced all kinds of filters, electronoic modules, etc. finally took to an independent guy after 100K miles and stalling 3-4 times a day. check ALL vacuum hoses for small cracks. replaced main hose in Nov and absolute no problems since.
