Transmission fluid coolant system

Post by morinmichel »

I would like to know if my XC70 is equiped with transmission fluid coolant. I am planing to buy a trailer (starcraft travel star) that weight 2850 pounds and I am still woundering if the XC70 can handle this.

Thanks

I think that trailer will be too heavy. You have a cooler inside the radiator, but that might not be adequate.

You should be fine. I think the car is rated to tow up to 3300 lbs. Check the owners manuel to be sure.

Per Vovlo service manual my trans is rated to pull about the same amount and never need service.

These front wheel drive (or all wheel drive) cars do not have a transmission that can handle towing. The trans cooler is almost adequate for daily driving but cannot handle the stress of towing. If you need to pull somthing get (borrow or rent) a vehicle designed for towing.

You also need to have the trans fluid changed every 30K miles. The transmission is the "weak link" in these otherwise exceptional cars.
