oil in coolant expansion tank Topic is solved
I would like to hear more about this issue. my daughter has just bought an 1989 740 turbo. She has coolant loss, oil in the coolant overflow tank. No coolant in the oil. Is this a water cooled turbo? i noticed an ill fitting hose and aftermarket hose clamp connecting the "Tee" shaped hose from the overflow tank to a steel pipe going to the turbo bearing housing. Two places have looked at the car, estimates are 400 to 1,000$ for head gasket replacement. Is this a common issue?

It could be possible that the leak is in the turbo. I am having a problem with my 940 Trubo where the turbo leaks a very fine mist of oil into the air intake. I am loosing about 1 quart of oil every 1200-1300 miles because of it. I suppose it could go the other way and the oil could be leaking into the cooling system, but still not be a head gasket problem.

Idea perhaps, take of the oil lines to the turbo and do a pressure test on the cooling system. Maybe you can see bubbles or water comming out of the oil-line connections on the turbo.
