modular unit in steering column??

the other day the cruise control, turn signals and virtually everything to do with the controls from the steering wheel would not work. Volvo said it was a modular unit or something like that and instead of replacing it (under warranty) the re programed it and charged me $160. I have had the car less than a year and already have had 2 major warranty problems with it. What else can I expect and should I try to sell befor the 100,000 mile warranty is over.
