v40 vibration
I just got a 60 K service. When the job was completed I noticed a vibration in the car when it's idle. The steering wheel vibrates the most, however, the rear passengers feel it as well. The vibration is not when accelerated, but it's quite noticeable when idle. I took it back to my independent mechanic. He couldn't figure it out. Does anybody have an idea of what it may be?

What engine is it ?
My V40 1.9 Diesel has got more and more like an old rattley diesel engine as it has got more miles on it. This is nothing to do with the way it shakes and rattles when I press the brakes - reported elsewhere on the board.
If it was an older car, I would say that the idle speed was too low or the mixture was wrong. I guess that this is all set by the computer now. May be it has be wrongly set during service ?

Sounds very much like engine mounts to me ! I had exactly that. many techs could not pick it up.

i've got the same problem on my S40... shakes badly whenever idling but ok when driving. Apparantly it's a known engine balancing problem on the S/V40 Prior to 2000 but Volvo have no idea how to fix it.
new Engine Mounts can mask the problem... anyone know how well they fix it?

my 2000 V40 had that problem dash, steering column, pedals would all vibrate, mostly on the passenger side, I inspected the mounts and the front of the engine mount(timing belt side) was calapsed and torn I replaced it 90dlls and all vibration gone.
