reprogramming ecu chip memory?
I have heard that the chip in my 86DLwagon sets its self according to how its driven. I have a car that has been driven by an old lady and it seems to be set for slow driving. My friend has the identicle car but he drive his aggressively and there is a huge power difference in these identicle cars. Is there any way I could reset the memory for my driving? (like by disconnecting the battery or something like that)?

I'm not a 240 guy, but for 850s, disconnecting the battery does reset some functions of the ECU. Which functions get reset has never had much consensus, but people swear it does 'reset' the ECU.
On another topic, I'm mildly suprised to hear that mid-80s ECUs can 'learn' driving styles and adjust accordingly. If so, good for them.
Either way, it's worth a try since the cost is $0 and it'll take a whole 5 min. Also try the traditional methods of tuneups: make sure sparkplugs are good, air filter looks good, regular oil changes (and oil filter), run some fuel system cleaner.
