Just bought a 98 S70 with automatic A/C, today when I started the car, the leds on A/C and RECIRCULATE did flash for 20 sec. I know it tells that there is a problem with the A/C. Does anyone knows what triggers the flashing of the leds ? for example Too low pressure, faulty compressor clutch etc. Does it absolutely mean GO TO DEALER, is there anything known(typical known problem) to cause the leds to flash ?
Thanks in advance

the manual reads the A/C unit is faulty. Symtoms on my 1997 S70 was either there was a qucik fan blow, everything stopped then the two lights flashed for 20 secs or nothing happened the two lights just flashed, no A/C and no fan. I took it to the dealer for a very expensive repair close to 700 dollars and the fix was a fan motor drawing excessive current. So if you are a DIY, check the fan first or the eletronic part that controls it for any burned or failed components. I would do it if this happens again as I strongly beleieve it was the electronics that was likely faulty. By the way my A/C is a ECC unit
I got the 20 sec flashing lights and the AC codes can be gotten out of the computer under B! I found the codes at my local libriany in the Mitchelle Automotive books. 417 dirvers of passenger temp. sensor fan motor not working. ( Miniature fan locater on each side avove the hand hold in the headliner ) 418 Some information the EEC not getting to function properly.
The mechanic said just clean the lint out of the miniature fans.

there are a number of things that could be your problem. Low pressure, damper motor(s) not working, cabin temp sensor malfunction, or possibly the electronic climate control unit itself. The first step is to get the codes read. Once you have the code number(s), post them here and we can point you in a direction.

The small fans above the grab handles are the cabin temp. sensors (if that helps).

Hi! I have the freon refilled by the mechanic. The two LED still flash when I start the car in AUTO. When I change to Manual, the blower will work and I get the cold air flow. Then I change back to AUTO, the ECC is working fine because I can change the temperature setting on both side. I should be very pleased to any suggestions for me to find out the problems that cause the LED to flash.
